To fulfill this aim Sansthan has chosen Yog as its means..The genesis of Yog has been adopted on the lines enshrined by Maharishi Patanjali. Healthy Living- Happy Living Our focus is the most burdened and stressed family person who has dual responsibility to keep his or her family floating in this turbulent world.Yoga has explained in a number of ways. The word yoga has been originated from the Sanskrit root word “YUG” which means Union. Yoga is our ancient treasure, it is art & lifestyle. It focuses on the overall development of the individual. The system of Yoga is more than 5000 years old. The Samkhya Philosophers who evolved the concept of Yoga and can be traced in Upanishads and ancient Vedic texts. According to them, Yoga is the process of self-culture, self-evolution, self-discipline and self-realization.
“Samatvam yoga uchyate”(Bhagavadgeetha; 2nd Chapter; 48th Sloka)
(Yoga means Equanimity of the Mind)
“Yogah chittavritti nirodaha”(Pathanjali Yoga Sutra; 1st Chapter; 2nd Sloka)
(Cessation of mental modification is Yoga) Maharishi Pathanjali, who lived around 300 BC compiled, modified, systematized and refined Yoga as a system of all round development of human personality through Ashtanga Yoga which is also called as eight limbs of yoga or Raja yoga.
The Ashtanga Yoga:
Yama: Emphasizes on conscious observation of certain rules for self- discipline.
Niyama:
These are rules for personal purification i.e. physical, mental and spiritual up liftment.
Asana:
These are the practices of various postures.
Pranayama:
This is the controlling of mind through the breath control.
Pratyahara:
This is the withdrawal from the sensual pleasure.
Dharna:
This is the concentration of the mind on a single object.
Dhyana:
This is the continuous flow of mind on a single object.
Samadhi:
The joining of individual soul with the universal soul. According to Yoga, human being is made up of Pancha (five) koshas:
Annamaya Kosha
Pranamaya Kosha
Manomaya Kosha
Vijnanamaya Kosha
Anandamaya Kosha
When all the five koshas function in harmony it enriches the ojas which results in nourishing the tejas and bala requited for effective functioning of mind and body. According to the scriptures, the five layers or sheath we are made up of are:
Anna-maya-kosha :
Anna-maya-kosha is first layer of our personality which is made up of the quintessence of food (anna-rasa), and it expands because of this essence. So the food we consume plays a major role in what we are, since it governs this layer. Praana-maya-kosha : Praana-maya-kosha is the second layer of our personality. The word praana means source of energy. Every physical activity needs energy. Our vital functions which the prana primarily governs are breathing, heart beats, circulation, and digestion, so on.
Mano-maya-kosha :
Mano-maya-kosha is the third layer of our personality which depicts 'mind'. Thoughts are provoked by reminiscences, conditionings, emotions so on.
Vigyana-maya-kosha :
Vigyana-maya means our wisdom and intellect which forms the fourth layer. Through this layer, we experience the intellect and knowledge. Also these experiences leading us to a discriminative thinking ability and guide us through the good and bad.
Aananda-maya-kosha :
Aananda-maya-kosha is the soul of Vigyana- maya-kosha which forms the last layer. Resultant of the previous birth, the residues, the deeds and actions leads us to the formation of the layer which constitutes our personality.
YOGASANAS
Yogasanas are specialized postures of the body often imitated and derived from the animal postures. “Stiram sukham Aasanam”(Pathanjali Yoga Sutra; 2nd Chapter; 46th Sloka) (Steadiness and happiness is the practice of asana) According to Gheranda Samhita: “Asanani samastani yavanthu jeeva jantavaha” (Gheranda Samhitha; 2nd Chapter;1st Sloka) (The number of asanas are the same as the number of animals present in this universe.) “Hatasya prathama angatvat asanam poorvam uchyate kuryad asanam stairyam arogyamcha angaladavam”(Hatha yoga Pradipika; 1st Chapter;19th Sloka) (The first practice in hata yoga is asana. By the practice of asana body gets steadiness, health and flexibility) KRIYAS The yogic kriyas are the first and most important practices in Hatha yoga. They are said to cleanse the body internally. The six kriyas are: “Dhautir-vastis-tatha netir, tratakam, Naulikam tatha Kapal-bhatis-c-aitani, Sat-karmani samacaret”(Hatha yoga pradipika;2nd Chapter; 22nd Sloka) Dhauthi, Basti, Nethi, Trataka, Nauli, Kapalabhati are the six cleansing techniques called Shat karma PRANAYAMAS In Sanskrit Prana means ‘vital force’ and Ayama means ‘control’. Thus Pranayama means the control of the vital force through concentration and regulated breathing. The controlled breathing that is, inhaling and exhaling for a fixed time and changing the rhythm is possible to influence the life- force in the body.
